Generation 1

JAMES STUBBS lived in Flintshire. He married ELIZABETH JONES of Pulford, Cheshire, on the 1st January, 1750 in St. Mary Parish Church, Pulford, Cheshire. He was possibly the son of EDWARD STUBBS of Ewloe, Flintshire, who was baptised in Hawarden, Flintshire. James' second son was named Edward. James and Elizabeth moved around the Flintshire - Cheshire border, probably looking for work, before settling in Burton, Flintshire, where they both died.

James was buried on the 25th February, 1769 in All Saints Parish Church, Gresford, Flintshire. Elizabeth died a pauper, after she had been a widow for three years. She was buried with her husband on the 5th June, 1772.

The children of JAMES STUBBS and ELIZABETH JONES are:

  1. JAMES STUBBS, b. 1750, Dodleston, Cheshire; d. 1808, Dodleston.

  2. EDWARD STUBBS, b. 1752, Broughton, Flintshire; bapt. October 29, 1752, St. Daniel Parish Church, Hawarden.

  3. A CHILD STUBBS, b. 1754, Shordley, Flintshire; d. 1754, Shordley; bur. December 20, 1754, St. Cyngar Parish Church, Hope, Flintshire.

  4. ELIZABETH STUBBS, b. 1755, Burton; bapt. 1755, All Saints Parish Church, Gresford, Flintshire.

Generation 2

JAMES STUBBS (JAMES1) was born in Dodleston and baptisedon the 29th September, 1750 in St. Mary Parish Church, Dodleston. He married MARY ROBERTS on the 26th December, 1772 in St. Mary Parish Church, Dodleston. James and Mary lived in Hawarden before settling in Dodleston. He worked as a labourer.

Mary died in Dodleston and was buried on the 20th July, 1799 in St. Mary Parish Church, Dodleston. James survived his wife by nine years and died in Dodleston age 57 years. He was buried with her on the 13th October, 1808.

  4. MARY STUBBS, b. 1788, Dodleston; d. November 25, 1870, Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

  5. JOHN STUBBS, b. 1791, Dodleston; bapt. 1791, St. Mary Parish Church, Dodleston; d. 1791, Dodleston; bur. December 26, 1791, St. Mary Parish Church, Dodleston.

Generation 3

ELIZABETH STUBBS (JAMES2JAMES1) was born about 1773 in Hawarden. I have not found her baptism. She is most likely to be James daughter as they did live in Hawarden for a time before settling in Dodleston. She would then have been named after James' mother, Elizabeth, who had just died.

Elizabeth married JOHN STANLEY, son of ROBERT STANLEY and MARTHA FORSHALL, on the 17th September, 1797 in St. Paul Church, Liverpool. After their marriage Elizabeth and John went to Dodleston, where they raised their family before John returned to Wallasey.

MARY STUBBS (JAMES2JAMES1) was born in 1788 in Dodleston, Cheshire and was baptised on the 2nd March, 1788 in St. Mary Parish Church, Dodleston, Cheshire. She married JOSEPH PHILLIPS on the 5th December, 1810 in St. Oswald Church, Chester, Cheshire. They settled in Toxteth Patk, Liverpool.

Mary died on the 25th November, 1870 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

  3. ELIZABETH PHILLIPS, b. 1819, Toxteth Park, Liverpool; bapt. October 3, 1819, Our Lady & St. Nicholas Church, Liverpool.
