Generation 1

JOHN HALLSWORTH was born Abt. 1740 and lived in Norbury, Cheshire. He married MARY TORKINGTON on the 25th October, 1768 in St. Mary Parish Church, Stockport, Cheshire. John was a collier and they settled in Norbury to raise their family.

JOHN HALLSWORTH (JOHN1) was born in Norbury and baptised on the 3rd October, 1775 in the Norbury Chapel, Cheshire. Like his father he was a collier. He married ANN MOTTERSHEAD, daughter of THOMAS MOTTERSHEAD and ANN HALLWORTH on the 26rd January, 1796 in St. Mary Parish Church, Stockport, Cheshire.

  1. WILLIAM HALLSWORTH, b. October 17, 1802, Hazel Grove, Stockport, Cheshire; d. June 07, 1863, Lodge Lane, Dukinfield, Cheshire.

  2. SARAH HALLSWORTH, b. July 01, 1804, Stockport, Cheshire; bapt. August 08, 1804, St. Mary Parish Church, Stockport.

Generation 3

WILLIAM HALLSWORTH (JOHN2, JOHN1) was born on the 17th October, 1802 in Hazel Grove, near Stockport, Cheshire and was baptised on the 28 th November, 1802. He married BRIDGET GRATTON on the 10 th January, 1825 in St. Michael Parish Church, Mottram in Longdendale. Bridget was called Biddy in her marriage record and John Marsdale and James Cooper witnessed their marriage. After their marriage, they lived in Derbyshire for some years and then settled in Dukinfield. William was in the building trade, a stonemason, contractor, builder.

Bridget died on the 21st March, 1847, aged 43 years, in Booth Street, Dukinfield. William married ANN HILTON HARROP, a widow and daughter of JAMES HILTON, a collier, on the 23rd July, 1854 in St. Mary Parish Church, Stockport, Cheshire. Their witnesses were Thomas Butes and Mary Moorhouse. Ann was living in Lodge Lane, Dukinfield and had been married to HARROP. They lived in High Street, Dukinfield and William continued his building work. Ann worked in the cotton Mill as a weaver.

William died a few years later. in 1863, in Dukinfield. In 1866, Ann married FRANCIS G. DOWNS in St. John Parish Church, Dukinfield in 1866. Ann and Francis lived in Downs Farm, close to Harrops Farm, Dukinfield, where CHARLES HARROP lived.

  5. ANN JANE HALLSWORTH, b. Abt. 1836, Stockport, Cheshire; m. GEORGE HENRY SUTCLIFFE, March 01, 1862, St. Peters R.C. Church, Stalybridge, Cheshire; d. June 06, 1917, Stalybridge, Cheshire.

  6. WILLIAM HALLSWORTH, b. Abt.1841; occ. builder; occ. spinner; d. April 22, 1878, 16, Henry Street, Dukinfield, Cheshire; George Henry Sutcliffe was with him when he died.

Generation 4

MARY ANN HALLSWORTH (WILLIAM3, JOHN2, JOHN1) was born about 1827 in Derby, Derbyshire. She came to Dukinfield with her family and married JAMES HEGARTY, son of JOHN HEGARTY and ALICE of Stalybridge, on the 9th September, 1850 in St. Peter R.C. Church, Stalybridge, Cheshire. The witnesses to their marriage were George Caon Cregg and Joseph F.Anderton. James was born about 1828 in Dublin, Ireland. He worked as a self actor minder and they settled in Stalybridge. In 1881, James was a widower living with his unmarried daughters and son.

  2. WILLIAM HEGARTY, b. 1853, Stalybridge; bapt. April 19, 1853, St. Peter R.C. Church, Stalybridge; His godparents. Gareth Hegarty and Dinah Hallsworth; occ. Labourer in iron works; He was god parent to Frances and Suzannah Sutcliffe.

  3. JAMES HENRY HEGARTY, b. August 29, 1854, Stalybridge; bapt. September 03, 1854, St. Peter R.C. Church, Stalybridge; Godparents. John Doyle and Ann Jane Hallsworth; m. TERESA MULLINS, July 24, 1877, St Ceicro R.C. Church, Stalybridge; Witnesses to marriage. Edward Mullins and Elizabeth Guiness; Res. Grasscroft Street Stalybridge at marriage.

  4. GERALD HEGARTY, b. March 28, 1857, Stalybridge; bapt. April 12, 1857, St. Peter R.C. Church, Stalybridge; his godparents were Joanne Lyman and Joseph Harrop.

  5. ANN JANE HEGARTY, b. January 04, 1859, Stalybridge; bapt. January 09, 1859, St. Peter R.C. Church, Stalybridge; her godparents were Philip Mitchell and Ann Jane Hallsworth; occ. cotton frame tenter.

  6. ALICE HEGARTY, b. July 09, 1860, Stalybridge; bapt. July 22, 1860, St. Peter R.C. Church, Stalybridge; her godparents were John Jones and Mary Jennings.

DINAH ANN HALLSWORTH (WILLIAM3, JOHN2, JOHN1) was born about 1828 in Sandiacre, Derbyshire. She came to Dukinfield with her family and worked as a maker up in calico print works. She married JOSEPH HARROP, son of THOMAS and MARTHA HARROP nee WILD, on the 19th January, 1857 in St. Peter R.C, Church, Stalybridge. Sister, Sarah Ann, and Hugh Hegerty were their marriage witnesses. Joseph worked in the calico printer works as a tenter.

Dinah died on the 19th February, 1862 in Oxford Road, Dukinfield and was buried in St. John Parish Church, Dukinfield on the 22nd February, 1862.

  1. WILLIAM HARROP, b. July 16, 1858, Oxford Road, Dukinfield; bapt. August 01, 1858, St. Peter R.C. Church, Stalybridge; his godparents were James Hegerty and Mary Ann Hallsworth; m. Sarah OLIVER June 19, 1880 Ashton under Lyne; d. June 29, 1910, 668 Metropolitan, Queens, New York, U.S.A..

  2. THOMAS HARROP, b. October 15, 1860; bapt. November 25, 1860, St. Peter R.C. Church, Stalybridge; his godparents were James Hegerty and Margaret Healey.

  3. MARY HARROP, b. December 04, 1861; bapt. December 29, 1861, St. Peter R.C. Church, Stalybridge; her godparents were John Harrop and Mary Daly.

SARAH ANN HALLSWORTH (WILLIAM3, JOHN2, JOHN1) was born about 1830. Sarah lived in Dukinfield at the time of her marriage and worked as a cotton back frame tenter. She married PHILIP MITCHELL, son of JAMES MITCHELL, on the 14th August, 1858 in St. Peter R.C.Church, Stalybridge. Philip was born about 1827 in Mieth, Ireland and was a a widower, living in Stalybridge at the time of his marriage. Philip was a master tailor.

The child of PHILIP MITCHELL and his first wife is:
